Seeking Mushroom Identification?
The adventure of learning to identify mushrooms is best done with a few handy guidebooks and within a community of experts. If you are eager to start identifying, here is what we suggest:
- Join your local mycological society. You can join SDMYCO (San Diego Mycological Society) on our member page or visit NAMA (North American Mycological Society) for a listing of clubs across the country. Seek out events and workshops to learn from local experts.

When requesting mushroom identification share pictures of all parts of the mushroom including the the cap, base, stem and underside of cap. Also describe the location, trees in the immediate vicinity and substrate (soil and duff, fallen branch, rotting log, lawn etc) where the mushroom was found.
